FSB091: Jen Basford

What do you get when you cross a brainiac, with a cheerleader and a photographer. You get the one and only Jen Basford of 3 Girls Photography. Don’t let her barefoot, bouncy, and bubbly personality fool you. This MBA was once ranked #5 in her state in math and worked as a technical consultant at Accenture before starting her portrait photography studio. The meteoric success of her 3-4 year old studio is a clear testament to her marketing smarts and business acumen. In this episode, Jen shares with us her take on what makes a photographer a professional? Which she believes is more important, the photography or the business side? What it was like growing up as an only child and how that influences her as a mom of, you guessed it, three girls. She also shares why she absolutely will not do weddings. Jen has a vibrant outlook on life and an infectious spirit that will keep you smiling throughout the entire interview.

Jen was a fantastic guest. And, it was nice to have a guest not shooting weddings, nor with the desire to do so. But after hearing her, I get the feeling that Jen could shoot anything or anybody. She has a fantastic personality. I work in the IT consulting industry myself, and would love to make the same transition, if i could.

      Hi Arthur,

So glad you liked Jen's interview. But, FYI, we've had a number of guest, particularly this year, who are not wedding photographers. Jeremy Coward, David Bean, Chase Jarvis, Robert Scoble, Thomas Hawk, Robert Silber, Gray Scott, Sarah and Kent Smith, Kia Bondurant, Sana Antisdel, and many, many others. Take a look through the archives, or click on the category of the type of photographer you'd like to hear from to see.

      Thanks again for tuning in.
