C180-018: Patrick Moreau of StillMotion

“You need to invest in yourself before you can expect others to invest in you.”
~ Patrick Moreau (inspired by Michael Y. Wong)

How does a wedding videographer get hired by the NFL to create a series of videos from the Super Bowl to the Draft? Or get recruited by Canon to do a national bus tour teaching about DSLR filmmaking? Well, hopefully today you’ll glean the answers to those questions as we interview Patrick Moreau of Still Motion fame.

Patrick talks about how he went from a psychology major at university to becoming one of the foremost event filmmakers in the world. He shares how their craft has evolved over the years, from the early days of over-using the steadicam where half their clips were dazzling, yet dizzing flying shots; to how they’ve switched 100% to Canon DSLRs. Patrick really gets into the thinking behind the shoots they do, why they make the creative decisions they make. He also talks about the amazing NFL deal and how that came about. There’s just way too much to mention here. Just listen to the interview already. :)

Thanks for sharing all the stories and insights. Love the last question about children. As a father of 3, I can't imagine that kind of lifestyle, but it's great to live it vicariously through Patrick's work.

As a lover of documentaries, I can't wait to see what SM produces when they come full circle to their original plans.

  1. [...] a month or so ago i was asked to do an interview for a show hosted by a friend of mine, ron dawson. ron has a couple different web based shows, one primarily for photographers (f-stop beyond), and his new one that delves into the cinema world, crossing the 180.what i really enjoy about his podcasts is that they are less about the gear and technical side of things and more about the people, philosophies, and current issues within the industry. it was great to get a chance to catch up with ron, chat about the changes at sm, where we are headed, city of lakes, as well as our whole nfl story. if your interested in checking out the interview, it just went live today and you can listen here.
